DSP03813 - Greater Scaup ♂ (Aythya marila)

So lucky to have another rarity turn up at the reserve.

The greater scaup or scaup in Europe or "Bluebill" in North America, is a mid-sized diving duck, larger than the closely related lesser scaup. It spends the summer months breeding in Alaska, northern Canada, Siberia, and the northernmost parts of Europe.

Only a handful breed in the UK every year, making them our rarest breeding ducks.
