Atacama in 360-degrees

Category: 360-degree Panoramic Shot

Story:

In the heart of Vallecito, near San Pedro de Atacama, the desert’s surreal rock formations stand silent under one of the most pristine night skies on Earth. This 360-degree panoramic nightscape captures a breathtaking alignment of celestial wonders: the Milky Way cuts across the heavens with its dense star fields and vibrant nebulae, while a faint Gegenschein glows subtly opposite the Sun—an elusive phenomenon caused by interplanetary dust reflecting sunlight.

Above the rugged, wind-sculpted formations of Vallecito, a soft airglow blankets the atmosphere, painting the sky with shades of green and red. Between the towering rocks, you can spot the Small Magellanic Cloud, a nearby dwarf galaxy orbiting our Milky Way, adding a unique touch to the southern sky composition.

This untouched location, shaped over millennia by desert winds and erosion, offers not just dramatic geology but also some of the clearest skies in the world—a true sanctuary for astrophotographers and stargazers alike.
