Old giants

Red cedars, Cathedral Grove

Port Alberni, Vancouver Island, Canada

Red cedars were the basis of the First Nations people's way of life in the territories now called British Columbia. They were used for buildings, clothes, baskets, furniture, totem poles, etc.

These magnificent trees are several hundred years old, and probably 50 to 60m tall. They easily reach a diameter of several meters.
