Mountains of Wrangell-St. Elias

It's late evening yesterday, as I'm heading towards Glennallen on the Glenn Highway, and the mountains of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve are quite impressive.

I used Peakfinder to determine what I was looking at. Mount Drum is the center mountain at about 40 miles from me in this photo. Mount Drum is a stratovolcano with an elevation of 12,010 feet. To the right of Mt. Drum, the little peak is Snider Peak and the higher peak is Mount Aznetti and the large rounded mountain to its right is West Wrangell (14163'). Wrangell is a massive shield volcano which is still active. Stratovolcanos are explosive while shield volcanos tend to ooze - think Hawaii. The tallest peak to the left of Mt. Drum is Mount Sanford (16237').
