An Alaskan Vista
Anytime I need a break from cabin fever during the COVID-19 pandemic, all I have to do is to take a drive down the Seward Highway south of Anchorage. The views are just incredible.
Here it's October and we have termination dust on the Chugach Mountains in the distance, but the mountain range is huge and continues right next to the road right up into Anchorage. Wonderful fall colors are still on the Birch trees to the left. The railroad track is lower and closer to the waters of Turnagain Arm. The darker area to the right and past the railroad tracks is wet glacial till while the water itself looks more like ice than water in this image. The Seward Highway is constricted to two lanes for most of the trip with occasional stretches of four lanes. Because of this, and the beautiful scenery, and the large distances between cities, it's fairly common to have the road closed for hours after an accident. If you've been to Alaska chances are good you've been on this road.
