Mountains over Kachemak Bay

From the archives... I visited Homer in February while it was still in Winters icy grip. I love the mountains on the far side of Kachemak Bay. There are alpine glaciers there which are hard to discern in winter with snow everywhere, but generally they're the very smooth areas in the valleys between the mountain peaks. The center of the image is the Homer Spit. It's a four mile long, narrow intrusion of land into Kachemak Bay. It's where the Homer harbor is along with lots of very small business selling food, fishing, flying, adventure tours, and a variety of kitsch for the tourists that you might expect.

More interesting for my visit was the road to Homer from Anchorage, which I had not experienced at this time of year. It can be treacherous, especially going over Turnagain Pass whenever snow or ice is on the road.
