Scratch and preen...

This Double-crested Cormorant was drying out it's wings at Oceanside Harbor when I started to shoot it. At one point, as it preened, it dropped it's head in front of its body and it looked like a headless bird for a moment. For this image its moved its head and bill around to its back to preen those neck feathers.

 

I think this bird is in breeding plumage as it had those small tufts on both sides of its head.
