I'm interested in progressing further in portrait photography, but at the moment I'm just using friends (or in this case my girlfriend) who happen to be around while I have a camera with me. I think part of this is because I feel like specifically being with someone to take photographs of them puts pressure on both myself and the subject that I'm not comfortable managing.

 

Instead, just asking someone for a photograph, or sometimes not even that, helps me produce more genuine images of people at this early stage.

 

I hope to be able to manage the responsibility of the subjects pose, expression, etc. at some point, but for now I'll just worry about getting their bloody eyes in focus.
