Spun Chair by Thomas Heatherwick
Born out of Heatherwick's ambition to make a piece of furniture from the traditional techniques of metal spinning. Conventionally used to make things like lampshades and drums. The resulting chair is a genuinely useful, comfortable piece of design that looks nothing like a traditional chair and instead uses the language of goblet making , appearing to be something more like a vase , vessel or cup.
The chair is a play object as well as a beautiful thing. It moves, rocks and spins around.
