Executive Decisions

While enroute to LaCrosse for the weekend, we were informed of a BNSF SD70MAC in the executive paint leading CP 484 eastbound. After thinking I would miss it due to it being 45 minutes away when I still had 3 hours of work left in my shift, my hopes quickly dwindled. However, there was some light at the end of the tunnel as the trailing NS C44-9W had some sort of electrical fire causing the train to stop in Cooney siding, just west of Oconomowoc,WI. With the heavy train unable to keep speed under one locomotive, CP sent a rescue in the form of an AC4400CW that was in Muskego Yard. Due to numerous freights, as well as an already late passenger train having higher priority it wasn't until well after nightfall the train was ready to depart Cooney siding. We soon came to the consensus we would wait it out and delay our ETA into LaCrosse in order to shoot the train. Finally, after a re-crew and a wait for one more eastbound freight, BNSF SD70MAC No.9666 got the signal to proceed east on the CP Watertown Subdivision seen here departing from the east end of Cooney
