Mourning Dove (Juvenile) DSC_5850
Soaking up some evening sun at the edge of Boggy Creek, this young fellow doesn't seem to have any common dove sense. However, his parents and I love him anyway.
His parents flee when I walk within 10 feet or so of them. They call to him to do the same but he just looks at them like they are nuts. He will look at them, then at me and back and fourth trying to decide if he is going to stay or go. He seems to be putting a lot of effort into his decision, then just continues with whatever he was doing. He may be eating millet and seeds his parents threw out of the main feeder for him, he may be enjoying a drink or a bath in Dove or Boggy Creek or simply resting.
Although, I think he is adorable and I am sort of glad he is not afraid of me per say, I wish he would listen to his parents. One of these days there could be a real danger and he won't have time to ponder while he is sitting there looking like hawk bait.
All of the other juvenile doves that hang out in my yard listen to their parents. They head for the trees or a roof top when I wonder too close for comfort.
I wish the best of luck to this little guy as he grows and learns.
Have a wonderful day and happy snapping.
