Arndale - Nomansland Garage, Forest Rd, Nomansland, Hampshire SP5 2BP 1990

This is a lovely scene from a fair way back in time. It shows that even into the 1990s some very old pumps were still in use, if for not much longer. As can be seen in the other photo from around this era, the pumps were almost immediately replaced. I've posted one photo before of this garage when branded Butler from a few years later, and commented then that the mini canopy at this site was a clear indication that it had once been an Esso site, and the pumps in this photo only go further to back up that claim, they are both models that were extensively used at Esso garages in the 1950s/1960s. In the background behind the Land Rover recovery vehicle is an even older pump, in sky blue, and as the sign would indicate next to it, used for serving Esso Blue. The cars on show are nothing amazing but that's the only downside to the scene.

The garage here still exists, stopped selling petrol some time back, and the main area of the forecourt eventually had a new workshop building occupying it, so it looks quite different in the present day, but the older garage building with the pitched roof is still there.

Below I've added the slightly later image of it when the pumps had been replaced, then one when it was branded Butler and finally a contemporary image as the garage stood in the summer of 2025.
