The garage here survives but it's a long time since petrol sales ended. It looks like, from a map, the A12 was once bypassed from running through here and what was the A12 is now the B1024. However, that seemingly happened in 1967 so petrol sales here, although probably somewhat impacted by that, continued for some time.
Certainly for 1991 the pumps on this forecourt were pretty out of date and there were only two on the main foreourt, yet diesel is advertised as well as unleaded so either they were dual fuel pumps or perhaps more likely there was a diesel pump not visible in this image. At this time one could get £7.50 off one's AA membership!
