Abandoned Murketts Vauxhall Dealership, London Road, St Ives 3
It's now just over fifteen years since Murkett's London Road Vauxhall dealership closed down. The premises have gradually been deteriorating over this time. It's been fenced off for the last decade but seemingly nothing is happening in terms of redevelopment. Plans are in pace, but the site is heavily contaminated, and that may be one of the most significant hold ups to any plan of action. I see a plan is in place to put forty nine new houses on this site. It doesn't help that the site was a gas works before it was a car dealership. It would seem the National Grid Gas Compound has to remain so many of the new houses will back on to an ugly utilitarian building!
