Butler - Abbey Road Service Station, Abbey Road, Leiston, Suffolk IP16 4JA November 1993
In the space of just over three years, the Abbey Road Service Station changed appearance twice, first from Total to Butler, and then from the mid period Butler livery to the final one. Previously I only had the one photo of this garage when branded Total, as well as near contemporary ones that I had taken long after fuel sales ended so it's great to have two more eras to be able to add into the equation now. Add in Spottedlaurel's photo of the site when it was Murco branded and a fairly full history of the site over the last thirty five years has been established.
Here, just over two years later, the branding has changed and so have the pumps. The cars on show aren't as interesting really, a Ford Escort for sale, another in white further down the road.
Below I've added the earlier Total image and a later Butler one, Spottedlaurel's Murco image when the garage was under the ownership of Kerridges, and my near contemporary photo showing the site as it is now, Appleton Engineering.
