Regent - South Street, Crewkerne, Somerset 2nd October 1968

This is quite the scene of destruction. An RAF fighter jet had just crashed after the pilot lost control of the plane. Despite ejecting before impact, he did so too late and was killed. Amazingly he was the only direct casualty, although a man in the area suffered a fatal heart attack. The garage proprietor and another man were both seriously injured by blazing fuel. It could have been so much worse. More info here

In this era the garage in South Street, Crewkerne was a Regent branded site but it would very soon change to being Texaco branded which it has been ever since. Indeed despite the wreckage here, the garage is still remarkably similar in appearance to how it looks in the present day, really just the addition of a canopy the one obvious change along with the now obligatory pole sign and price board.

Below you can see the garage as it stood in April 2024.
