Burmah - 131 Rose Hill, Oxford, Oxfordshire OX4 4HT 26th January 1993
On the 26th January 1993 this garage was in the news after a robbery took place here. It's an impressive night-time photo for the era. It's also a fine example of this era of Burmah branding, the pump livery having been altered from the 1980s style but the "barrel" pole sign still in use.
Quite some time ago I posted a photo of Brewers of Nuneham when Burmah branded and said it was a Busy Bee garage, at the time not really knowing what that meant, but here's another one, different spelling but surely directly related. I'm guessing it must have been a small chain of garages in this area, Nuneham Courtenay being less than ten miles south of Oxford. Indeed the garage here still exists as a tyre and exhaust centre and still under the name of Buzy Beez garage. I'll add the image of Brewers of Nuneham below.
The Streetview for this location is a bit annoying to look at as the house next door is blurred out in every view. The building remains the same but all traces of petrol sales have gone.
I've chosen a relatively special image today to mark the 3,333rd older petrol station I've posted, a rather nerdy mathematical achievement as it is one third of ten thousand!
