Apparently a panel of 1000 DIY motorists chose the final design for the cans, but not the girl. That's how the press reported it at the time, in a typically subconscious throwaway sexist manner prevalent in that era. It was also just a rebranding, putting a new design on a product that had already existed. The main body of the can was green and the stripes in red.
