Mobil - Testing Petrol Pumps, Bussey's, (Possibly) Palace Street, Norwich, Norfolk 6th September 1963 2
I've posted a similar picture of this site before, that previous one was much more limited in its view of the garage - see below. Here more of the site is seen but I'm still not really able to work out where it was. Bussey's had many outlets across Norwich and possibly beyond. Certainly they had workshops and garages in Thorpe Road, Whiffler Road and Palace Street. According to what information there is online, the Whiffler Road branch was built after this photo was taken and I've checked out the Thorpe Road site, which still stands, if no longer a garage, and neither look right so as with the previous image I am guessing this was taken in Palace Street, but it might have been somewhere else altogether. They have branches in Attleborough and Fakenham in the present day and either of those is also possible.
Lots of history of them as a company can be read, lots of images too on their website - see here
Anyway, this image shows a weights and measures inspection at one of their sites in September 1963. The nearer pump is a Beckmeter and further back there is an older Wayne model. The kiosk is promoting Green Shield Stamps which had been launched a few years earlier. Also seen are some small Shell BP stickers suggesting those were the brands previously sold from here. In the background a lorry's tyres seem to be getting an inspection. Overall a lovely period image.
