Esso - Magpie Garage, Stapleford, Cambridgeshire 13
This garage had also been a Texaco site in the past, changing to Esso around 2010. Earlier still it was a Mobil site in the 1970s and early 1980s. It's always been known as the Magpie garage, and for a long time it was under the ownership of Murketts, long time Vauxhall dealers in this area. That era ended a few years back and for a while the garage soldiered on as an independent before a brief period with EMG branding followed. However, as can be seen, that ended abruptly and the showrooms have been empty and covered for the last few years.
There used to be a rival garage just down the road from here on the opposite side, Welch's garage which sold Shell petrol and were for a long time Subaru dealers, later Daihatsu dealers. That one has gone completely, but the Magpie garage here continues to sell plenty of petrol so one hopes it has a future.
