Esso Pump - The Crown Hotel, The Green, Park Street, Exford, Somerset circa 1950
Outside the Crown Hotel there was once an Esso pump for their customers as can be seen here. The Crown Hotel is still there of course, still under the same name.
In another old postcard showing a scene opposite here in Chapel Street, in the past, there was a small petrol station with a row of pumps, I believe that was called Central Garage. It has been recently renovated to be called the New Central Garage and to my surprise there is still a pump outside the premises. The most well known garage of all in Exford would have been the Exford Service Station, much photographed over the years for its interesting architecture. I'll add the postcard of the other view of this spot in Exford along with a few images of the Exford Service Station below. none of them have sold petrol for a long time now.
