Cleveland - GW Salter Motors, Banbury Road, Oxford, Oxfordshire 9th March 1966 2
Today marks the occasion where I have uploaded fifteen thousand photos, of which about 85% are petrol related in one way or another. As a result today's post is only about that one subject, and mostly featuring more images of this garage and service station in Banbury Road, Oxford. The garage here was once called the Kings Arms Garage as it was situated almost adjacent to a public house of that name. I posted a photo of that one some time ago, it was taken in 1960 or thereabouts. Here just six years later and now GW Salter Motors, the entire premises have been totally rebuilt into a much more modern looking business and there is now a partially covered forecourt with quite a modern looking canopy extending from the building. The site is now a Rootes dealership and a solus Cleveland site, in 1960 they also sold National Benzole.
Petrol sales here would end by the early 1990s, and GW Salter would focus on selling Citroen cars, although one single pump remained on the forecourt in 1992 as can be seen in the image below. Also added below the earlier image from 1960.
Nothing remains of this premises in the present day, indeed it was all demolished for new housing before the first Streetview image was taken.
for what it's worth, this is the same view in the present day.
