Esso - Palace Lane, Beaulieu, Hampshire SO42 7YE circa 1970

Just down the road from the National Motor Museum, the forecourt here still survives but petrol sales ended a long time ago. In the present day it is New Forest Classics but back here in 1970 it was a standard large Esso branded service station with an uncovered forecourt and pump island. The canopy which stands in the present day looks pretty old so I suspect that was added in the later 1970s or 1980s at the latest. As can be seen from this aerial view, it was an extensive premises but I'm not at all sure if the area behind was connected or just a car park as it is in the present day.
