Former Petrol Station and Garage, East Street, Crewkerne
This might not look like much, an ugly boarded up building with a scruffy yard with weeds growing in it, but it was once a working garage, and earlier still also a petrol station. Earlier Streetview shots make it clear it had been a garage but for its days selling fuel, you'll have to trust my memory! The very first Butler branded site I ever saw was here, I think in about 1975, give or take a year, and the thing I most clearly remember were the Butler pumps with globes in purple and white. The garage site here was slightly further out of Crewkerne along East Street heading towards Yeovil than the better known JH Swaffield and Son, then selling Pace petrol and still going strong today. Both though were on what is still the A30 in the present day, and back then one of the major routes to the south west from the London and south east area.
