Texaco - Ashlands Farm, North Street, Crewkerne, Somerset circa 1984

My dad took this photo in I am guessing the early 1980s of a view across Ashlands Farm in North Street, Crewkerne just before the whole lot was turned into a housing estate. The photo makes its way onto here because, although tiny, one can see the period Texaco pole sign of the North Street garage lower left. It's the only image I have ever seen of the garage actually branded Texaco. The age of the sign indicates to me that the garage here changed brand from Esso rather earlier in time than I had previously thought.

The service station here was a Cleveland site up to about 1973 when it changed to Esso. Texaco was, I think, its last brand before spending some time as an independent site before finally closing and becoming a hand car wash which it still is in the present day. However the pole sign as it was in 1999 suggests strongly that it might have spent a year or two as a Q8 site.

Below can be seen images taken in I think about 1999 when it was a run down former independent site, and then more recent ones when it had become the hand car wash site.

Hard to replicate this view on Streetview due to the high vantage point so I'll put in the closest I can get!
