National - Wests Garage, Newmarket Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire circa 1960
This is an old newspaper cutting from I imagine the Cambridge Evening News. The garage here lasted up to about 2016 before being demolished for student accommodation, bit of a theme here today! I remember this place well in the 1970s as an Elf garage, by then the tie-in between Renault and Elf had become well established, but as we see here, in the 1960s it was a National branded site, I think, mainly, as Elf has yet to enter the British market at this point.
