Shell - Approx 87 Binley Road, Coventry, West Midlands CV3 1HX circa 1960
The Shell garage here disappeared entirely to be replaced with an Iceland and Lidl stores. This happened right at the beginning of Streetview, indeed construction work is seen in the 2008 view. Whether or not this was to directly replace the garage or if there was an intermediate period I don't know. As ever the amazing longevity of trees makes the location certain. The trees seen in this image match directly with those in the current Streetview! Although we don't see it in this image, on the opposite side of the road a bit more over to the right and a little further down, there is a Gulf filling station in the present day which was previously a Total, and before that a Jet site.
On the forecourt here, a lovely row of Shell pumps is seen, all with globes and the era of sign, slightly obscured, suggests a date for this image of around 1960.
