National (and Esso in Distance) - 65 Main Street, Callander, Perthshire, Scotland, August 1962

This image brings me neatly to 12,000 photos of petrol stations and garages posted now, so I felt it needed to be a special image to honour this latest landmark. Sadly I have no idea where this image was taken, it was listed as London, which in itself isn't very helpful, but I'm not at all sure it is London. It looks more provincial to me, and possibly rather further north. The style of the brickwork on the shop with the Senior Service advert on the side just doesn't look like it could be in London. Anyway, the main feature of this amazing image is the National garage with roadside fuel delivery and a lovely facade. The one thing that is certain is it was number 65 on this road. A little further down is the Ledi cafe, does the sign with Bristol on it mean it was in Bristol? I don't think so, perhaps a brand of cigarettes. Having checked it was indeed, so not Bristol then.

Frustratingly there is a streetname sign visible, but just not clear enough to fully read it, E Church Street possibly? That only shows up as a Street in Norfolk or Buckie and neither looks totally right although the style of architecture in Buckie is much closer to that seen here. So in a nutshell I need help with this one!

In the distance there is an Esso pole sign as well as various period vehicles. The Commer van I think it is is the most obvious.

Overall a fabulous period image but it'd be nice to know where it was!

Edit update:- Thanks to Mikey Ashworth, location found. Main Street, Callander, Scotland. It was North Church Street, not East!
