National - Roseland Garage, 16 Churchtown Road, Gerrans, Cornwall TR2 5DZ circa 1955
This is the earliest image of the Roseland Garage here in Gerrans I have seen. I think it's just post-war. Here we see it as a National Benzole site, that potentially brings the date forward to the solus era which commenced in 1953, but it’s also perfectly possible that such a remote garage could only supply the most basic range of petrol and only National were prepared to go and deliver? I just don’t know the workings of the fuel supply market in that era! As will be seen in the following images, it was later on Anglo branded, a bit later still Butler, and then in its last days serving petrol, it was a Mitchell and Webber site. Sadly the garage closed about five years ago. Streetview shows the the pumps had gone by then, but the pole sign and canopy still stand.
As I understand it, the garage went on to sell Shell petrol from soon after the date of this image right through to the late 1970s when it changed brand to Anglo. No image (as yet) of it as a Shell garage but I have it as Anglo, Butler and Mitchell and Webber - see below.
Sadly more recently the pumps were removed from the site and the garage that was closed.
