Anglo - WG Pryke, Stoke by Clare, Suffolk 1982
Stoke by Clare is a small village roughly halfway between Haverhill and Clare on the A1092. It's a lovely area full of many old properties, but highly gentrified in the 21st century such that all petrol stations that were in the area have now gone. Indeed this region of the country is one of the most bereft areas of all. This one was a very small concern as can be seen, a charming tiny forecourt in front of a house with old pumps, even for this era, still with globes on them, and swing booms to reach the cars to fill up at the roadside, and the oldest of the Anglo signs. Garages like this were a delight to see back in the day.
There is still a garage nearby in Clare operating under the name David Pryke, presumably a younger relative. The premises here became a listed building in 1961, I found a web-page giving a few details but they haven't even got the name of the garage correct - Pryce, not Pryke! It might be one of several reasons why the garage didn't last, another being the forbidding later on of roadside fuel delivery.

Here's the same view much closer to the present day.
