Shell - North Chailey, East Sussex BN8 4DH 8
This is a delightful service station, partly for its location and also because of the brilliant canopy "hat" on the pole sign. This style of canopy with sloped tiled sides is very common in Sussex, so much so that I am sure it must have been due to strict planning controls. With the pole sign here I'm not sure it was insisted upon but possibly added as an extra. Many of the sites that have these tiled canopies were once Murco branded, but I'm pretty sure it wasn't a company choice to use them or I'd have seen far more like this across the rest of the country.
Fortunately Dan Lockton has a lovely earlier image of the garage when branded Murco, see below, and Jude Currie has one from a little later on in the later Murco livery, both can be seen below.
I've posted photos of this one before, but never had I actually stopped, parked and walked before so these should be the best ones I've taken so far!
