Shell - Chequers Garage, The Plain, Goudhurst Kent TN17 1AD circa 1965
This is a much nicer, clearer and colour image of the one time Chequers Garage in Goudhurst. I've previously posted a black and white image, see below. It was one of at least three there used to be in the village, now there is only one. Perhaps Chequers Garage greatest moment was when it featured on television in the Dick Emery Show in the very early 1970s - see here

I don't know when the garage closed down but a good guess would be when kerbside petrol delivery was outlawed. It might have been earlier than that though. The building is now the home to a wealth management service - how times have changed!
