BP - Central Avenue, Newton Aycliffe, County Durham DL5 4DH early 1960s

If all my suspicions are correct then this BP petrol station was pretty much brand new when this photo was taken and it has subsequently all gone and been replaced with a Tesco store. The Tesco does have its own petrol forecourt now, but in a different location. I think this entire area had been newly built in probably the early to mid 1960s, that's the only reason I can explain such a postcard being produced!

The Newton Aycliffe Story website pretty much indicates that this part of the new town was built in the late 1950s which corroborates my suggestion of the age of this image and why it was taken!

I have to say I prefer this older view, but then I always would, much better than the maintenance and delivery entrance to a Tesco supermarket!

Here's that dull view today.
