Independent - Porters, Barnoldby Road, Waltham, Grimsby, Lincolnshire DN37 0DB 9

Porters has been closed for quite some time now, perhaps as long as back to the beginning of 2022. It has a number of lovey retro features including Gilbarco Highline pumps under the canopy and a very old Tokheim 952 that served paraffin. In addition there is an old Burmah sign on the front of the building which has been repurposed and turned ninety degrees. Richard has a great photo from 2011 which shows the evidence it was once a Burmah site really clearly, and one pump was branded Rix back then so possibly another former brand, but more likely a second hand pump coming from elsewhere. Certainly Rix supplied the site at times as can be seen in the 2019 Streetview. You can see Richard's image below.

Sometime in the last decade or so, the garage had been given a revamp and the livery was changed from one part based on leftovers of Burmah with a unique, if a bit basic, logo to something like a cross between Harvest Energy and BP ultimate. Although it was a shame for the site to lose the indicators of its former life, it did certainly smarten up and unify the whole site. Even the bin on site got the new livery!

One wonders what might happen here in the future now the garage is permanently closed, at least according to Google. Certainly I was glad to get here before anything drastic does happen, although of course Richard and Ian Calvert had been here a fair few times before I did.

Here's a close up of the Tokheim 952 paraffin pump.
