Multiple Brands - Barkers, High Street, Three Bridges, Surrey circa 1935
What could be more appropriate for a landmark than a garage that shares my name!
Annoyingly I cannot work out where this was, I think it's all changed so much here over the years that potentially little of what is seen here still exists. It looks like to the left is Three Bridges railway station and the road crosses either a single track railway line or much more likely a small stream, but that doesn't tie in with anything on any modern map.
This image is beautifully taken, so much detail and certainly pre-war due to the telegraph pole style. Barkers garage is selling National Benzole, BP Ethyl, Shell and Power petrol and it looks like a car is parked outside on the small bridge, I guess you could do that in those days.
Nearer there is an undertakers and further down the road there is Laker family butchers.
The big pylon in the background is quite a clue and based on that, the location of the railway station and the bend in the road I think this is about the same place today but it's so different its impossible to tell!
