Gulf - Lansdown Service Station, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire 16th September 1987
The Gulf service station in Lansdown, Cheltenham was Gulf's flagship site in this era, hence it got used in a number of promotional photos. Their headquarters were just down the road from here. The garage was notable for having a fancy canopy with a sort of pyramid/pagoda roof structure designed by Clough Williams-Ellis, he of Port Meirion fame. Although you cannot see that fancy canopy in this shot, you can in another I have - see below - taken in much the same period.
The garage here still exists but has been Texaco branded form the start of Streetview. I have a terrible photo of it as Texaco, but Richard has a much better one which I'll add below along with an earlier one even than this that Dan Lockton found when it was in the previous iteration of the Gulf livery. The earliest Streetview shot is rather nice showing a Texaco tanker making delivery to the site.
Here's the caption that came with this old press photo - "Jack Threadingham (right) takes advantage of the attendant service facilities available at Gulf's Lansdown Service Station in Cheltenham. This facility is now available at 60 per cent of Gulf's outlets"
