Multiple Brands - SH Jordan now Crossroads Garage, 29-31 High Street, Prestwood, Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire HP16 9EG late 1930s

Incredibly this garage still exists in the present day, no longer selling petrol but it certainly still was up to around the end of the last century. Looking at the site in the earliest Streetview it appeared to have sold Murco petrol at some point if not as its last brand.

Back in the pre-war era the garage was selling Regent petrol and I think I can see a Mobil Oil sign too. I think we can assume that SH Jordan supllied nearly everything to the village in those days, not just petrol and car maintenance but also groceries, provisions, confectionery and tobacco. An important place! I have to say I can't ever recall Woodbine cigarettes ever being sold as "Wild Woodbines" before!

I've found one other older image of the garage, cited as being 1960 or thereabouts, but sadly we only see the booms for the pumps and not much else!

Prestwood had another garage a bit further along the road, Prestwood Motors, still exists in the present day, and looking through the older images on the same website, there's lots of info about it and plenty of older images. looks like that one was branded Amoco and Total at various times so presumably Elf too after Amoco. That site also no longer sells petrol and hadn't since Streetview came along.

There was a third garage, Stevens Garage selling Mobil petrol and then National petrol, that one hasn't survived and is now a residential cul de sac.

All these images can be seen here

Here's what Crossroads Garage looked like in the earliest Streetview with a tiny amount of Murco branding just showing on the building. (you'll have to move further down the road to see it!)
