Shell - Llugwy Terrace, Capel Curig, Betws-y-Coed, Wales LL24 0EP 1959
Just for the next two days I'm continuing with older images to reach the landmark of 1,000 Shell images, then I'll revert to my normal posting regime.
This is a splendid retro scene and a very rare colour image from the 1950s. This is the era when cars are transitioning from looking like Chirty Chitty Bang Bang in the distance to a more austere and utilitarian design as we see with the two grey ones nearer, a Morris Minor (not a Morris Minor, a Hillman Minx - see comments below) and not sure of the other, wrong era for me but I'm sure someone will say! They contrast with the amazing bright yellow and red of the Shell pumps. This is also the era of all younger men wearing shorts, the four approaching make me think of Enid Blyton's famous five, except the dog is missing.
The same view today is rather boring, the petrol station is long gone, along with all the colour it brought, and the Cafe is now a hiking and climbing store. At least the wonderful scenery is unchanged!
