Former Petrol Station - Bissett's Garage, Winkleigh, Devon EX19 8HN 3
Bissett's Garage closed for business in about 1997, it might have been earlier than that. There was a closing down sale in 1997 and Dan Lockton, who lived relatively nearby at the time, was there and took a photo of that day, really mostly the pole sign - although you can see one pump in the background under the clock. The clock is still there in the present day and so is the wonderful old Gulf pole sign which must date back to the 1980s. Dan reckoned it might be the only Gulf pole sign of this style still standing in the country today, and I think he's right. There was at least one other at a garage in Cornwall but that went some years ago. That was in Newbridge, I got there too late to capture the Gulf sign, but Streetview did, it was here.....

With his photo Dan also mentions about this place being called Aussie Steve's Workshop and AJ Motors as well as Bissett's Garage but he doesn't explain how that worked, the timeline etc. However checking Streetview it would appear that Aussie Stevewas there in the earliest Streetview shot so it remained a working garage into the Streetview era. He also mentions evidence that it once sold Esso and maybe Anglo but there's no photographic evidence of that.
In the present day it is a cafe called Catkin Blooms as far as I could tell. Nice place to stop for a cup of tea!
You can see Dan's photo below.
