Esso & Shell - Forest Row, East Sussex circa 1960

Two petrol outlets right next door to each other in Forest Row in this era. One survived, the other did not. The Shell garage was known as Martin's Garage, the Esso clearly was part of the cafe and Swan shop we see to the left here, that was in time totally demolished and replaced with a modern service station and shop, now a Tesco, the forecourt still Esso branded after all these years. In the far left corner we see the sign for the Swan - I think a public house back then but more of a restaurant now.

Other nice details include the period keep left sign bottom right and a Hovis sign on the front of a distant shop.
