Butler - Stewley Cross Filling Station, Ashill, Somerset TA19 9NP 4
Here are a few more photos, and the last I have, of the lovely garage that was once at Stewley Cross, Ashill, Somerset. Indeed Ashill had two petrol stations back in the day which is amazing for such a small place. This one had once been branded Esso, and then Proteus before the switch to Butler. I am guessing Butler was its last brand, it might just have moved on to Power but there is no evidence of this. Both garages were once on the A358 but it was bypassed and after that happened the lack of passing trade eventually saw the demise of both places. This one lasted longer and indeed still shows as an abandoned site in the 2009 Streetview. Later Streetview shots show it as a hand car wash with a yellow edged canopy, but by 2021 it had been demolished and a new house was going up instead. Those views can only be seen from the new A358 looking across.
