Former Petrol Station - Benedicts Bridge Garage, Liverton, Devon TQ12 6HQ 2
Benedicts Bridge garage here in Liverton was historically a Shell site in the 1970s and early 1980s. It then changed to Anglo for about a decade before returning to Shell for its last days as a branded site. It then carried on for a while longer as an independent site, hence the presence of a Murco branded pump on the site which is just coincidence, brought in second hand. As you can see the other pumps are in the Shell livery of the 1990s. In addition the pole sign still standing looks exactly like a Shell one of the 1990s. All the petrol facilities here are still in place, the tanks are apparently in good condition and they have even mildly considered the return of fuel sales. However this seems highly unlikely being on a bypassed road and adjacent to Trago Mills with its cut price forecourt. Indeed even the road it is on is itself a bypass of the original road over Liverton Brook, that ran behind the garage ad is still clearly visible on Google Maps. I have been unable to find any older images of the garage which is a shame given the number of Anglo photos I have. The owner here was very friendly and told me plenty about the place and allowed me to wander around the site taking whatever photos I wanted.
