Independent - Lovells Garage, Brook Street, Ottery St Mary, Devon EX11 1EZ 2
I missed this garage last time I was down here, didn't know it was there but have put that right this time! The road leading to here is extraordinarily narrow and it's pretty amazing that the garage has lasted in such a tucked away position. Dan has a photo from about 1988 showing an Esso sign hanging from the edge of the building where there is now a square sign reading "Lovells Garage" - see below. It would, of course, make sense to use the same fixture for any replacement sign. It would seem that they do still retail petrol from here even in 2022 but not much presumably given I had no idea this garage was even here last time I passed by, I guess if you know, you know so local trade only. I expect they did quite well out of their Ford dealership status in the past but they no longer have that, at least officially, all the signs have been amended to remove the Ford logo. Certainly their premises are quite extensive.
