Former Petrol Station - Smiley's Hand Car Wash, Sunderland Road, Felling, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear NE10 0PQ 1
At first glance this is just yet another dull petrol station turned hand car wash. On closer inspection though one sees, and I got very excited when I stumbled across this place, a John Hudson pole sign still standing after all these years. It's such a distinctive design and no other brand ever had anything like it so can be absolutely certain of it. You can see the one example I have of such a sign when branded John Hudson below. As a result we can be pretty certain this site stopped selling fuel at least twenty five years ago and has been relatively unchanged since. This doesn't come as a massive surprise as there's a Jet site just down the road from here which I am posting tomorrow, along with a Kwikfit and a second hand car wash opposite the Jet.
