Shell - North Road, Edenside, KIrkby Stephen, Westmorland CA17 4RP 3
This Shell site is a recent revival of a much older forecourt. Four years ago when I last passed by here the site was at its least recognisable as a petrol station so I didn't take any photos - just my bad luck really that I was there at that time. A year earlier or later and it would have clearly looked like a forecourt. Luckily though, Richard has a photo of it as it was from twelve years ago when it was Mark Johns Motors and an independent site with a very colourful livery. It also had a very unusual model of pump on the forecourt nearest the road for a while which is seen clearly in Richard's photo. The price board still standing in the earliest Streetview is distinctive in its style and bugging me badly as I feel I should recognise the brand but cannot! This forecourt is just down the road from Johnstone's Gulf branded garage and so provides direct competition in a area of few petrol stations, I really hope that doesn't mean that Johnstone's will soon disappear.
Incidentally the garage had to close briefly ealrier this year as the roof of the shop became unsafe in high winds, the road was closed briefly when that happened!
