Q8 - Bridge Garage, Bainbridge, North Yorkshire DL8 3EQ 3

This lovely garage has existed for a long time, back to the 1950s for sure and probably a lot longer than that. In my 1950s photo below you can see in those days it sold some of the big name brands of the day, Shell, BP and Power. Later on it sold Sadler petrol as Dan mentions in his 1999 photo which you can also see below. The Q8 branding is of course well out of date but presumably with this site being so rural no-one was too worried about it not being removed. Interestingly though the sign which was wall mounted sideways on is now flat mounted to the wall, a change that seems to have happened in the last ten years. The pumps and the branding are really the only things that have changed here in the last seventy years, two of three current pumps are very modern but one older Avery Hardoll one remains for the sales of red diesel.

I particularly like the sign for "Sweets, Newspapers, Minerals" which has in the last decade been changed from reading "Sweets, Cigarettes, Minerals" due no doubt to smoking becoming more and more frowned upon. It is though very old-fashioned to call soft drinks minerals in this day and age. The newspaper rack on the entrance door is also a nice feature.

Below you can see my 1950s image, one from Dan Lockton from 1999 and one from Richard from 2010. Egon Abresparr has also been here and taken a couple of photos, you can see his here www.flickr.com/photos/egonabresparr/9458537957/ and here www.flickr.com/photos/egonabresparr/9461309742/in/photost...
