Fina - Waterloo Bridge Road, London Pre- Budget Increase of 6d a gallon 22nd November 1968

Just before the budget in 1968 and a desperate younger Robert Maxwell lookalike fills up multiple metal cans with petrol to save 6d a gallon compared to the next day. In these days of course it was perfectly acceptable to drive around with a car loaded with fuel. Not sure what his passengers would have made of this, having to share the back seat with a row of just filled petrol cannisters. No-one light up eh. Actually maybe this chap was the chancellor of the exchequer at this point in time and even he felt the need to save a few beans before the rise he himself imposed comes into force.

I don't know precisely where this fuel outlet was, Waterloo Bridge Road so redeveloped over the last fifty years it's impossible to tell. Plenty of pumps around on this site though, clearly they were seeing a lot of use on this day.
