Regent - Jackson Garage, 1673 Bristol Road South, Birmingham, West Midlands 16th May 1952
This is one of a handful of interesting old Birmingham photos I have showing that with the ending or near ending of Pool petrol from the wartime, and the soon to be introduced legislation allowing solus sites, quite a few sites were putting in planning permission for brand signs. In this case it's Jackson Garage of Bristol Road South wanting to put in a Regent sign for their now Regent only petrol sales. The only other petrol brand given any kind of a mention on the site is a floor sign for Mobil oil.
Of course in some ways the red ink drawing of arrow and sign outline rather spoils the photo but at the same time it is an interesting historical indicator.
The garage site here still exists, sadly a hand car wash. One would have imagined that in time this garage might have become a Texaco site assuming the tie with Regent last another two decades - but the still standing canopy suggests to me perhaps Q8 or Pace was its last brand. It is possible though that new panels were put over the old canopy which, in red, might well indicate a long association with Texaco. Sadly there's seemingly only the one Streetview shot available from April 2019
