Former Petrol Station - Main Road, Kesgrave, Ipswich, Suffolk 1
Some time ago I posted photos of a garage and Spottedlaurel linked me to another garage which he told me it reminded him of. As soon as I saw it on Streetview I got quite excited and knew I'd have to get to it and take some snaps! Here they are. For an otherwise unremarkable former petrol station - well, the architecture was actually rather fine but sadly a bit damaged now - this one has the amazing feature of an early era Burmah pole sign still standing. Yes it has a different logo on it now but it's such an evocative shape it could only be one thing. Well, actually one of three to be truthful as it could also be a Major or Apex sign of the later 1970s or early 1980s. However I think Major is very unlikely for this area but I guess Apex would be possible. However after a bit of a search I found a photo of it as a Burmah site stuck in the middle of an enormously long webpage of photos of Kesgrave from 1994.

Unless anyone can say otherwise this might be the very last of this type of pole sign standing anywhere in the UK.
BE Sewell have resided here throughout the Streetview era but apparently it was once a Mann Egerton tractor repair garage.

This is the moody shot!
