A E Sims and Son - Walcot Garage Showrooms, Bath, Somerset 1950's
Yesterday I posted an old but not vintage Renault dealership - here's a really old Volkswagen showroom from the 1950's. There are some nice signs hanging up inside the windows - the car radio seems seriously expensive but i guess in those days it was seen very much as a luxury item. There is a tiny petrol element to the photo as an Esso logo appears on one sign - a free touring service apparently. There's also a competition one can enter to win a Jaguar far right - and one of the cars in the showroom can be secured with a £107 deposit! The Austin A40 Countryman is £425 outright and the MG Sports must be quite second hand as it is only £125. The previous business from these premises must have been Henry King and Son but before that and under that writing appears Long Acre Technical Instruments - that must have been some time before the 1950's. I have to say I particularly like seeing the Beetle and Camper Van through the windows - they look very modern compared to the Austin and the MG!
